Sun Valley Commission

I recently completed a commission for a good friend and her husband who live in Sun Valley, Idaho.  As an artist, commissions can be a challenge because you must stay true to your own creative vision while also making something your clients will love.

My friend loved The Three Jewels paintings as well as my recent green painting, Feeling Fresh.  She also wanted a pop of color, either orange or coral.  I made some color studies by mixing up my own paint chips using the palettes she liked, and then played around with different combinations.  These became little compositions on their own, and I think have the possibility of inspiring a whole new project.  My clients ended up picking the third image, with the blues, greens, and orange.  I had a feeling they would pick this palette--even though I've never been to SV, these colors come to mind when I imagine the landscape there.

Another decision we made was to do a diptych as opposed to one large painting.  I love painting pairs because I find working in a series to be a good mental challenge.  I want the works to compliment each other but also stand on their own.

Here are images of the final paintings.  I can't wait to see them in their new home in SV!

Finishing up in the studio.
