In addition to working on my Pour Series this summer, I have also spent some time revisiting my Islands paintings from last fall. The first Islands paintings were an experiment of working in layers of thinned paint. The final forms and colors reminded me of views one might see from a plane when flying over islands. But as I expanded upon the process this summer, I realized that the last thicker layers of paint--which are poured, dripped and manipulated--physically create "islands" of paint themselves. Therefore, these paintings relate to islands both in an abstract and physical sense.
